This generative art piece was made by combining two systems: A multi-scale Turing pattern that generates dots and stripes, based on an abstracted model of how tropical fish form their patterns, and a model of compressible flow. The simulated fluid is colored and stirred by the Turing pattern, resulting in moving regions of structures that continually collide, obliterate and regenerate. Metallic blue and gold streamers descend in the darkness behind rising white and turquoise plumes.
