The warm, reddish background stems from the red of Obangsaek (traditional Korean colors), a sacred hue believed to ward off evil and invigorate life. The tree peonies (Mokdan) from Minhwa (folk art) symbolize abundance. Their diverse colors transcend decoration, embodying the universe's organic harmony. Upon this, I layered a tribute to the young souls who perished on the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago. The distinct white, pink, and purple blossoms represent diverse lives of different nationalities who shared dreams under one sky. Their harmonious blooming in a single vessel reflects my deep hope for peaceful coexistence. In Minhwa's animistic worldview, life never ends in vain; what vanishes is merely a seed for a new beginning. Just as a fresh sprout buds on a tiny petal-boat sailing toward the open sea, I hope radiant beings will bloom brilliantly once more from this sorrow through Minhwa's vital energy.
